Hey Marsh,
When I started with mine about 8400 miles ago I thought I'd just as soon go without it. So I rode without, then with, and eventually realized how much easier it ison the upper body riding with the windshield. But since I do like some wind in my face, and I don't like to look through the windshield, I used directions from a different thread to cut it down 2.5 inches. Now I never ride without it.
Well I don't know about you, but if I was going on a 200mi. trip on back roads, I would take the windshield OFF. (If I had one in the first place) Now if I was going to be on Freeways doing 70+ I would want a windshield. All I have now is a 3/4 with a faceshield.
changed my riding style ...basically slumped in my seat whichhad the effect of reducing the buffeting substantially. would never think now of doing long freeway riding without shield.

I took mine off about five years ago. I just couldn't stand it any longer. I even tried the chrome wind deflectors that mounts on the side of the triple trees. Even at hiway speeds I preer no shield.
If it's not an adjustable windshield you are pretty much stuck with the buffeting. The buffeting is miserable, so I'd rather not have the windshield. If you can adjust it, you might be able to tune it somewhat to eliminate the buffeting. I'm able to tweak my Windvest so it flips the air over my head.
Well, everyone's opinion is appreciated.
I've been riding for over 40 years and this Heritage is my 20th bike and the first one with a windshield so the wind in my face and the occasional bug is nothing new. I ride with large goggles in the summer and a full face in cool weather, so nothing gets in my eyes and I rarely ride at 70MPH.
The trip we are taking is on the Natchez Trace and speed is limited to 50-55mph so I think I'll be fine without the shield, but I am going to cut it down a few inches and maybe get some deflectors for when I take more of a road trip.

No doubt this a top tune..it gets played a lot....I ride with/occasionally without...and there are tradeoffs. I like the Deuce without for looks. Up to around 60 the windshield is great all around. I cut mine down significantly and have played with mount angle as well trying to lose the buffeting at 65+ with no luck. However the buffeting is fairly tolerable and not nearly as tiring as holding on at 70 for an hour or two. I have slouched down...stood up..leaned over...put hand across chest etc etc and the buffet is there to one degree or another bare head, official Harley baseball cap, 1/2, 3/4 and full face are dittos. The protection against flying objects offered by the windshield alone is worth it. Throw in the ability to kick back and relax a little at 65-70 and I am learning to like the looks better all the time...link below has both w/wo pictures and you'll see that it is not a BIG eyesore.I think it MIGHT help to add lowers....
