Default Engine light coming on

On my 2000 Fat Boy the engine light comes on intermittently while riding. It does stay on all of the time just comes on and then at times goes off. When starting the bike it act normal coming on for a few seconds and then goes off before I start the bike. Need some advice, haven't found anything in the manual that actually explains this very clearly to me anyway.
Thanks
Louie

Do a diagnostic check and post what the errors are . We will be able help you narrow down what the issue is much easier .. also , give us a bit more info on your bike , any mods , work done lately etc .

Off hand, sounds like a common problem. Check spark plug wire are making good connection.

Please post what the fix was. - Thanks.

I would be good to get the code, you would then know what to check....

As mentioned a common problem for intermittent codes on the older bikes would be from bad wires/plugs/ coil to plug connection... If I remember correctly, the code would read; "Front (or Rear) cylinder combustion intermittent" or "Front (or Rear) cylinder no combustion". I had that code/problem with my '03 Heritage and new wires fixed the issue...

FWIW...

When the check engine light stays on, you have a current code (problem) with the bike...

If the problem is intermittent, it will stay on while the problem is present, and go off when the problem has passed...

Once your bike throws a code, the engine light will come on and go off as normal, and then come on again for several seconds right after start up... this is a signal that you have a non-current, historical code....

Good luck with diagnosis/repair....
