I have a 2008 Softail Custom with a 95ci stock with a 6 speed trans, What engine work would be best for the most power ?
Need to keep rideability but want more JAM. And of course, lets be gentle on the wallet. LOL
Do you have a 95 or 96? 2008 should have the 96 with the longer stroke flywheel. The question also is how happy are you with the current power of the bike? How much more do you really want vs really need. And what kind of driving do you do?
Performance vs easy on the wallet? Those are mutually exclusive. Lol
an 08 should be a 96" not a 95" motor. Cheapest would be a cam only. Look at the 48H cam. A step up from that would be a 107 different cam but without the heads done. Most performance and expense would be a 107 with headwork.
No matter which way you go the initial mods are going to put a dent in your wallet. You will more than likely want to address the exhaust and air cleaner. You will need a tuning device or a dyno tune with their license and adjustable pushrods unless your going through the top end with the swap.
2008 is stock 96.7ci or simply the 96. You can bore your stock cylinders to a max of 107ci. HD and S&S sell 110ci drop in kits however the cylinders even though made from tool steel are paper thin. Anything bigger requires a stroker crank and big bucks.
Several venders here will take care of you and a quick call is all it takes. Scott at Hillside cycles has pretty affordable 107 kit ready to bolt on.
Cheap and "fast" on a harley do not go together. At least not for long. Before we get to far you have to come up with a budget otherwise we're all just pissing in the wind. Do have an aftermarket exhaust, intake and any type of tuner? Let's start with that and budget. Then we'll spend your money lol
I have an 07 Softtail Custom. Have you considered changing the gearing to a lower ratio. It would cheaply increase bottom end, but would also sacrifice top end performance.
Sorry its a 96, these fat fingers are hard to type with lol, I forgot to mention i have Vance and Hynes short shots on the bike, Haven't seen a Tuner anywhere.
Budget around $3000 I'm good with.
I just want the best bang for my buck.
$2500 to $3000 would be my Budget, Forgot to mention it has Vance and Hynes short shots on it but no Tuner.
Bore your cylinders to 107 and put a good set of cams in for around $1500. You’ll also need the bike tuned on a dyno which could run up to $600. But you will probably see about 100 RW horsepower and 115-120 torque. If you have your heads ported and use a matched cam you will see more HP and torque, of course about another $1000.Call one of the vendors here and talk to them they will set you up.
And as was mentioned I did a 30 tooth front sprocket and 70 tooth rear and it really changed the bike. Wasn’t so lazy anymore.
I just opted for a new set of 103 cylinders 0.030 head gaskets newer ACR heads and a set of SE204 cams. I goes really good I’ve been happy with it.
