I ran 36 psi with my first set of ME880s, many, MANY, moons ago, and they wore out so fast (only got about 5K miles IIRC), I was going to switch brands. Then I read something about them having pressure recommendations, so I checked their site out, and sure enough, they had much higher pressures recommended. Decided to give them another chance with the upped pressures, and have been a happy Clam ever since. When I moved to the ME888s, I found their recommended pressures, and have been running them ever since with excellent results.

Just a note: the rear tire size I run (150/80B-16) is reinforced, so I run a higher pressure than than a non-reinforced one. If yours isn't reinforced, find their recommended pressure, so you don't over-inflate it.

BTW, my current front tire has over 24,000 miles on it, and still has plenty of life left. This one is the longest lasting one I've ever had, so far!

Cheers!

Interesting thread. My .02, front tire last 3 times what the rear does.
8K on the rear sux, means ya been runnin it low pressure, too high pressure, or just burnin it.
12K on the rear the norm factory tires. It is what is.
I'm runnin a 240 on my FLFBS in the rear, it's more like a slick than anything.
160 in the front, more than have on their rears...*laffs
It's not the tire, it's your riding habit.

Also how long does a front tire usually last for
I too ride a Softail with a 200 back tire. I use Michelin Commander II tires. These too offer no better than 8000 miles. The front could possibly go a bit longer but not much. I change them as a pair always. I usually do wheel bearings every other set of tires. Once you hear the bearing thrum or buzz when in a sweeper there no sense trying to see how much longer they'll last. Not worth it when you already have the wheels off the bike. So I'd be interested in reading of a longer lasting tire too.

I only went about 8,000ish miles on my 2017 Slim before the rear tire was looking pretty worn in the center. I replaced the tires with Dunlop American Elites (stock front size but a 150 in the rear). My front tire was fine but I wanted them to match. These tires handle so much better than the stock Dunlops.

I wore out 29 rear Dunlop 402 wide whitewall tires on my '94 FLSTN. The average tire life was 7,596 miles. the low was 6,125 and the high was 9,094 miles.

I'd say the OP got pretty good tire life for a stock rear tire on a Softail.

My '19 Heritage got 10,000 miles from the first rear tire. I might have stretched a few hundred more, but I figured it didn't owe me anything at that point.
