Default Power Commander

Just got off the phone with the dealer. My 06 Heritage Classic will be here in about 3 weeks. I am having them put on SEII slip-on's and stage 1 A/C. The dealer then tells me that a re-map is not needed if the new type Power Commander is used, he gave me a part no. for the Power Commander but i didnt wright it down. I questioned him about this and he said that there dyno man has better results this way. I intend to talk to there dyno man next week.
Any comments on not doing a re-map with a/c and exhaust change?

Powercommander maps from their site are very close most of the time. If he does not charge much and you trust him I'd do a custom map. Past experience on metric bike slip on exhaust did not need a powercommander, not sure about the HD's. You can put a powercommander on a stock bike and get better, noticeable throttle response. If you plan on adding any other performance parts like a full system I'd get the powercommander anyway.

Hello Nomad. Check with your dyno man. I believe the mapping was changed again for the 06 lineup. More user friendly in that it will allow for some changes without remapping. Because you are going with harley co. parts. I am not an expert, this is just a thought that might save you the extra cost of re-map and dyno. You may not need the power commander at all. Good luck!

I am new to the EFI bike world, and have an '06 Night Train. The bike was remapped for the stage I, and I have just ordered my stage II big bore. They say that the remap for the big bore, and 203 cams is marginal at best from the harley, without the race tuner. How does the Power Commander do for a stage II big bore?

Go to the power commander website. You can look at the all of the custom maps. They are a breeze to install. Plus you can always use it on your next bike. The race tuner only works on the bike is is initially installed on. You can buy them online for under 300 bucks and they are always making updates.

Now how do they come up with the tunes? Are they tuned on an actual bike, and you just choose the tune that is closest to the setup on your bike? Or do they come up with a tune on a computer that SHOULD work on a particular setup?

Most of the downloads are from dyno techs that tune it for a certain set up. Then dyno shares them with their clients, pretty cool. You could have a dyno tech do a custom map, but that is extra bucks.

So if you find a setup identical to yours, then it is a custom tune.

I have a 06 fatboy with Vance &Hines pipes, Screaming Eagle aircleaner. My dealer programed it with a HD Screaming Eagle program which cost $150. The bike runs terrible it cuts out and surges at low rpms. Has no top throttle response seems to run lean on top half of throttle. Purchased Powercommander and not yet installed. Wish I could tell you more but don't waste your $ on a HD program.
