Default Lift Point

I have my 2013 Slim up on the lift table with the front wheel clamped in the vice, I want to just lift the rear wheel up so what I'm wondering is it alright to place my small lift jack underneath the shock absorbers? Are they up to the weight and stress load or should I place the jack as far back on the frame as I can without it touching the shocks?

1/4in plate wider than frame on your jack (presume you're useing a scissor jack) or a 1x4 (might flex) , some times I'll slip a square of lath on each side

I just use 2- 6" pieces of auto heater hose slitted length wise to go around each frame rail. Jack will contact the rubber hose and not the frame.

I use the frame protectors. While designed to protect the frame rail, they are thick enough to keep the jack from pushing on the shocks because they hang just a touch lower than the frame rails... However, I lifted my 2003 softail for years on a Sears jack and then J&S jack, without noticing that one of the bars was pushing on the shocks... I didn't damage anything, but I decided not to take the chance anymore....

There are other "remedies" as mentioned, but basically anything that will cause the jack to push on the frame instead of the shocks... depending on the width of your scissor jack, you may be able to raise it by having it contact the frame just aft the shock bodies...

In this pic you can see the frame protector (yellow arrow) keeping my scissor jack from pushing up on the shocks...
