Wife and I have been riding softail Deluxes since 2010. Only two complaints...rear tires last only about 10 to 12 thousand miles. We are conservative riders and have toured this country since the middle 70's. That's pretty expensive...$200+ for the rear tire and $50+ for the mounting. Sometimes it has to be done during a tour and you KNOW how the shops get their pound of flesh outta travelers. The other complaint is the difficulty in airing the tires. Even though the valve stem is side mount out of the rim, getting a digital guage on it is hit and miss. I have to have digital 'cause I don't want any analog discrepancies. Any softail owners out there able to recommend a good digital tire guage that's easy to use on a side post valve stem? It's been about 40 years of HD frustration.
Harley makes a flex tube you can connect to the valve stem to check pressure with.
I use it with my Street Glide.
Also, tire brand can make a huge difference when it come to mileage.
I'm running Dunlop American Elite on my Street Glide and can get 18,000 to 20,000 out of my rear tire.
I bought a flex hose, for if I have to fill on the road. But, installing 90 degree valve stems helps.

Never considered that flex hose, convenient for the bag and out on the road. Have to grab one.
I bought the "Slime" brand found at most automotive part suppliers, the only reason I used to loose air from my tires was because I would check them before every ride. With the "slime" digital there is no air loss when checking, No hose or 90 fitting and works on my SGS, Crossbones and FXR.
I wish I got 10-12 thousand on a tire with a softail. I've owned more than a few softails and never got more than 6-7 thousand on a rear, so you are doing great. I just got my Crossbones a few months ago and will see how long the new rear 200mm will last.
Tried to find this but they are out of production. I just ordered and identical one from Jaco for $25.00 off Amazon. Works perfectly. Just what I wanted and has all the features of this DIYCO brand.
I've gotten mostly 10 to 12 thousand off my rear tires on our Softail Deluxes. Diligant about the correct pressure...makes the difference. We are very conservative riders also.
