I have an 05 Heritage which I ordered new with the Chrome Profile Laced Wheels (smooth wheels). This bike has never seen rain, snow or any other nasty elements. When cleaning the wheels this week, I noticed what appears to be corrosion spots on both the front and rear. Seems that the chrome is starting to bubble. My BIL bought his Electra Glide on the same day and his wheels are doing the same thing. I am meticulous about keeping things clean and only use wax on my wheels. Anyone else having this type of problem? I am just sick over this situation because the upgrade was $400 for these wheels. Any suggestions? Thanks.
when I picked up my 05 softail with the chrome lace, I was told by the salesman to be very meticulous with cleaning and waxing them because harley chrome is not very good. I have been but still starting to get a little pitting. not very good is a huge understatement! they are probably made in china like a lot of harleys other custom parts. pitiful on a 15 to 20 K bike. I guess it keeps the aftermarket guys happy though. I love harleys but some of these quality issues are very irratating. Maybe thats why there isn't a waiting list any more.
My wife's 05 Heritage is holding up really well. I think I'd have a talk with the service manager, and/or general manager at your dealer. I agree, it sucks that they're chipping and peeling already. A buddy of mine has an 04 SE Fatboy and the chrome on his wheels did the exact same thing. Kinda surprising, considering those are made by Centerline. Good luck with it.

My understanding is that you should not use wax on chrome, only polish. The wax has a sealer in it and captures moisture between the chrome and wax causing rust. Someone told me this along time ago. Chrome needs to breathe.
