Breather tubes
Recently installed a screaming Eagle stage 1 air filter and was wondering why they have you plug the breather tubes when the stock air filter has you vent the breather tubes.

Before you put the plugs on the backing plate , have a look inside where the breather bolt is , you should see a tiny hole that channels through the housing going into the T.B .
Check out the user control panel on the top right hand side , in there , you can add an avatar and signature . In your sig , you should add year and model of your bike along with a pic if you choose .

Can you post a pic or part #'s for both kits your trying to install . I'm thinking you installed the complete se air cleaner kit , am I right ? Just so we're on the same page and would make it easier for someone to help you out .

Ok , so it's not the kit I thought it was , your bolts that are on it now will be hollowed out and will breath into a small hole / Chanel that travels through the body of the backing plate . This air cleaner set up is still venting the crank case into the t.b .
If your looking at doing an external vent kit , to have the crank case vent to the atmosphere , then I would contact DK Customs and see which kit they would offer . Most cases , if not all , you'll have to plug that channel going through the backing plate , both sides ( yours ) , unless they sell you one without the channels , then you would be provided with new bolts that hoses can be connected to , to vent to atmosphere .

Many people have used an external breather venting kit, with the SE Stage I air cleaner... I have modified the breathers on an SE Stage I air cleaner kits on 4 different bikes.... it requires allowing the gases to vent out through the backing plate to the atmosphere, instead of through the channels of the baking plate into your intake/engine... A path to the atmosphere must be made, and the backing plate channels need to be plugged... there are numerous ways to accomplish both tasks...
It's a simple concept that requires you make modifications to the SE air cleaner backing plate... You seem to be unsure about this mod, so I will caution you to make sure you understand how it works, what mods need to be made, and how they should be made, before doing this mod...
If you accidentally plug the breather system... you will cause a host of issues... all bad...
If you search this forum, you should find numerous threads on the subject... with pics... I know I have posted pics of my breather mod(s) numerous times...
Do your research, and then good luck with your mod...
