I've already emailed Fuel Moto, but wanted some other opinions. And please no suggestions to buy something else. Ive got a power commander V that is only 8 months old, and I truly believe its defective. 2008 heritage stock engine with stage 1. (K&N filter and high flow exhaust). Maps sent to me by fuel Moto. Seemed to work fine for about 2000 miles, then started having stalling issues (occasionally) when coming to a stop. Engine would just coast down to 0 RPM. Would have to start it, and it was fine. As this only happened a few times I thought nothing of it. For the last month or so, its been happening much more frequently, and I tried all kinds of things such as making sure the breather wasnt blocked etc. Today I went out on a 200 mile ride to visit my mom, and I could not keep the bike running at all. Every stop I made, the engine quit. Bike ran beautifully while cruising, but died at each stop. Racking my brain and figured Id try removing the PCV to see what happened. (I had a similar problem years ago with a Fuel Pack). Removed the PCV and what do you know, the bike ran perfectly. No back fire, better fuel economy, and no overheating. As a matter of fact it actually seemed to run cooler as I have an engine temp (NOT OIL) monitor gage via the data port. This leads me to believe that the PCV was not doing anything at all to the bike as I really didnt notice any difference at all in the way it ran when I first got it. I would really appreciate your input, as I had a lot of faith in the Power commander, but now feel that I may have just wasted my money. I dont want my money back or anything, but would just like a working PCV in case of any more upgrades. Like I said, the bike seems perfect without it. No indication of it running too lean or hot that I can see.
This Is what I wrote to fuel Moto. Any input here would be appreciated.
Interesting! I have been using a PCV for years with zero issues. Have you tried reloading the map(s)? Did you buy it new from Fuelmoto or second hand? Is it in a location where it may get wet? Remove and reseat the connectors and check for any pinched wires where it is installed.
I guess what really surprises and concerns me is that the bike is running perfectly without the PC. Everything you read these days says that if you run a high flow filter and exhaust, it will run lean and hot. Not so on my bike. I'm almost thinking that the previous owner might have had the computer mapped or something, but I don't know. I bought the bike bone stock as far as I know. had 20k miles on it. Like I said, with the stage one and no power commander it runs great. I did 230 miles on her today, and the engine never got hotter than. 225 degrees F. and absolutely no decal pop or backfire. Been riding for 40 years, and this is just weird to me. Perhaps I've got an exceptional good on board computer that compensated properly
I may try and reload the Fuel Moto map tomorow and see what happens.. Maybe as the previous member posted it lost it's map somehow. didn't know that could happen though
I have to add to my post. It appears that I overreacted. There is nothing wrong with my Power Commander V. The problem that I had was caused by the ICV. Idle control valve in the throttle body was sticking, therefore causing my bike to stall at stops. I cleaned it out with a little bit of engine degreaser and wiped it off. Problem solved. For anyone else that don't know about this, it's the little hole in the top of the Throttle body. If you cycle the ignition switch you can see the plunger going in and out. If it sticks, the bike will stall at start. I apologized to Fuel Moto for MY mistake.
