Default to the coast and back

The wifey and I took a vacation last week and headed to the coast. Rode our FXSTC from our home near Memphis to Port St. Joe, Florida (600 miles) the first day, then ran around that area all week then back home yesterday. 1500 miles in all, not a really long ride, but fun none the less. On the way back, hit temps around 102 in south Alabama and my oil temp approched 250 in some stop and go traffic, which I've never seen it get that hot before. Luckly it didnt last long once we got moving again. Averaged about 44 mpg on the road and the oil temp averaged around 220 - 230 for those claming these 96's over heat, no problems at all.

Not a long ride?? I'm getting ready to snag the mascot from central Kansas and bring it back here to Denver...1,000+ mile round tripper...I'm thinking to myself that's a pretty long hump for a softail but after reading your post (2-up...1500 miles...102 degrees) I'm starting to think I may be a little soft!

Sounds like fun. You should have stopped by the house for refreshment on the way down.
