Default front stop light switch question

Question for you guys, what does the front stop light switch do? Also whats the impact if the boot is ripped? I think I ripped it while changing out the black housings for chrome ones, and I lost the little brass spacer thing. Is it a big deal?

It activates your brake light when applying the front brake. If you ripped the boot chances are you broke the switch or broke the end off the plunger so it will be too short to work. When working on the front brake lever or in that area you have to hold the brake lever open with a wedge of some sort.

thanks for the quick reply FUIRS, I checked the lights when I squeeze the brake, and the lights come on. One of the things I'm worrying about is the weather, or if I wash the bike, if it's going to cause a short due to the broken boot??

If the brake light is still working when you apply the front brake, and you indeed did rip the rubber boot, only a matter of time to replacement. Moisture will get in it and corrode rendering it useless. At least that's what happened to mine.
