Default Inner primary work planned - should I change the stator and starter?

2000 Softail Fatboy, 88CI 5 speed, stock, 28K miles.
Planning on getting into the inner primary and replacing some seals and stuff; thinking that maybe I should change the stator and starter while I am in there.
What do you guys think, how long should these last?

Unless they're malfunctioning, you're throwing your money away replacing them. Especially with such low mileage.

Cheers!

Stators & starters typically go for the life of the bike. You have more of a chance introducing a problem, or installing one with an early failure.

I'd skip the stator and starter though I might (?) consider a new inner primary bearing and race 'while youre in there'. They are cheap considering the labor to get to them. YMMV

28k, have you inspected the cam tensioner shoes?

That is part of the plan. I don’t believe it has been checked yet. Will probably do some Andrew’s 26 cams too.

If that was an old shovelhead i definitely would but the technology is so different on the tc’s. Can understand the thought path on that the whole while you’re in there thing. The charging system will probably last 100k. Starters can be fickle because they take such a beating. There are some replaceable components on the starter motor like the contact plunger you might throw in while it’s out though.
