Default Heel Toe Conversion

I'd like to convert my 91 FXSTS springer from the factory shifter to a "heel toe" setup. I don't have the upward strength I used to. Every heel/toe shifter online always says "will not fit". I am wondering about getting an extended shifter shaft for something like an FLST and using that set up or trying one of the aftermarket one piece heel/toe shifters. Advice? Experience?
Thanks

Search heel/toe shifters in “how to”, and Dyna models. There are some good tips. Good luck!

FXSTS is a Softail not a Dyna. If I’m not mistaken most all big twin models up to 09 maybe later will work on your EVO Springer JR. The only difference may be the length of your shifter linkage. No need for custom parts. I bought a set of heel toe shifter from classifieds on here. They came off a later model dresser. Bolted up to my 05 Train. G

I do not know about the '91 because it is an EVO frame...

But I like heel/toe shifters and put one on my 2001 FXSTS Springer.

I did as you are thinking of doing. I went to Ronnie's parts fiche, and looked up the parts for a same year softail, with a heal/toe shifter and bought the parts needed to make the conversion... I used all HD parts figuring it would be more apt to fit properly

I had to buy a different shift lever assembly. Plus the shifters were different between the heel/toe and the just toe shifter, so I also had to buy two shifters, two pegs, and a bushing... I had already added 5" foot pegs because I wanted a little more room for my feet... With a heel/toe shifter I suspect it would be almost a necessity...

Here is my parts list, from my service logbook... Again, this isn't for your bike, it's just to give you an idea of what's involved...This was for a 2001 FXSTS single shift to heel/toe shift, on a twin cam softail frame..

Here is a pic of the finished product..

NOTE:
Based on back again's post above, I checked the Ronnie's site and it shows the same lever assembly (#33668-90C), same shifter levers (#33895-82E), and same pegs (#34611-79), as well as the o-rings and washer that I used, fit a '91 softail Heritage with heel/toe shifter.. that makes sense since the suffix on the old part numbers normally meant the first year they were used, and those suffixes are 90, 82, & 79.... the part numbers I used, should fit a '91 bike...

Whether you go new or used.... double check for yourself before making a purchase.....

Good luck with your mod...

I think a big reason you get “doesn’t fit” is because it was never factory offered on the FXST with factory forward controls, traditionally on the FL designation with floorboards
