Default Brake Pad Spacing Issue

Howdy all! 2007 Softail Standard 20k on it. Stock rear wheel Fatboy style solid. Bought the bike last summer with 15k on it. I just looked at the brakes, rear pads almost at metal inboard, 3mm outboard. Bought a set of oem psds at the stealership. Thought maybe there was a caliper piston problem as there being such a difference in inner/outer wear. No problem found. Attempted to install the inboard pad and doesn’t fit. Not enough space. The rotor needs to flex to fit it in locking up the brake. Outboard has plenty of room. Does anyone know if the wheel spacers are close enough in length yet different enough to cause a spacing issue and could accidentally be installed on the wrong sides? I temporarily installed washers on the caliper to bracket mount moving the caliper in 3/32”. Pads all fit. But this is a wrong fix as the caliper mounts directly to the bracket. Manual doesnt show much on this.

Not sure of the hub difference between a Standard wheel and a Fatboy wheel. If the tire is centered you can get a shim to place between the rotor and the hub to center the rotor in the caliper or do as you did and shim the caliper over to center it on the rotor. A lot of aftermarket calipers come with shims for just that reason. Good luck on your project......

So just got done. Found out what happened. I had also noticed a grindy feel when cornering at slow speeds. As this is my first belt drive I thought maybe it was just meshing of belt teeth onto the pulleys. Nope. Pulled the wheel to examine the spacers, found both rear wheel bearings totally shot. Don’t know how this thing even rolled down the road. I figure the wheel spacing shifted due the faulty bearings. Replaced both with oem stealership brand and a new rotor while the wheel was off. Problem solved! Thanx for the reply!
