Default Fix your Springer,…. Correct the HD “De-Rake”

Hello,
ever wonder WHY Springers look like they just rear ended a bus?
HD Factory “De-Rakes” the neck of the factory Springer. Take Notice that your Too Plate, the neck and rear legs are Not in line.
But, There’s a fix: https://secure.vulcanworks.net/store/Harley-Springer-Softail-Rake-Kit.html
$238.00
If you don’t have access to a 20 Ton Press,…
you’ll have to pay someone who does. HD Factory really pressed that neck in there.
Also,… at the backside of the Springer Leg, you have to drill & tap for a ⅜” course set screw.
(Me, I pay the 4x4 shop in town to press out the original neck, and Drill & Tap for the set screw and I give him $100)
and this is a Great time to service your Rockers.
here’s some pics of my 2009 CVO Softail Springer
the pic with the sissy bar, that’s stock, and the latest pic is after dropping the rear 1.5” (LA Choppers lowering kit) and the front is raked (In-Line Springer)

Vulcan Works kit for an FX Springer

I don’t think it even took an hour to lower the rear with hand tools

the disassemble the Springer, I use 5/16” all-thread, nuts, washers, and 2 small blocks of HardWood drill ⅜” holes in the wood blocks

Stock Height:

Stock height Rear & Factory De-Rake Front

Dropped the Rear and Raked the front:

if I had Any Complaints, it’s the HD Factory shocks aren’t that great. Next $$$ will be some “Good” Shocks, and I’ll probably go to Short Risers and 10” baby Apes.

Anyways, just thought I’d share what $500 and a few hours time can do for your Springer.

That’s a beautiful bike.

If I ever have the chance to own a second Harley, I would put a springer front end on my FXSTC.

I tend to think Harley engineers had a reason to add negative rake and assume just leave it as it is. 🤷‍♂️

This. Raking the front end WILL change the amount of trail and affect the handling.
