Does anyone know why HD excludes the Flush Mount Gas Gage / Cap set for the FXSTDI? I've got an 06, and love how my Dad's look. After searching on here, I'm starting to get a little nervous with all the talk about the board failures, but am still considering putting them on. I just don't realize why they "won't" work. Is it tank shape? Wiring different?
I saw a 2007 Deuce at Black Hills Harley in April with the Flush Mount fuel gage on it.We have a 2005 Deuce and will put them on someday. I have no idea why they exclude them , but I know they work.
The top of the tank on the Deuce has slightly different shape from the other Softails. So its not "supposed" to fit properly. However a couple of the guys on here have found that because the trim ring that's not supposed to fit is made of plastic. It can be heated a little with a heat gun or really hot hair drier and made to fit. i saw one guy at a cruise in recently who just put it on. It looked nearly perfect. You actually had to know what you were looking for to see that itdidn't fit perfectly flush on the side by thedash. Something a little heat would have fixed if it was done at installation.
If you are gonna get them, do it soon. Harley has discontinued them, no more will be made, due to the troubles so many are having with vibration breaking wires on the board.
I got this info from my local Parts Manager, When the current stock is sold, no more can be ordered.
Check out the ones from Kuryakan, I have heard of no problems with those.
If you go with the Kuryakyn set, be warned, that they don't fit exactly right. It is due to the shape of the tank. I put them on a friend of mine's 06 Deuce. It's a very minor thing that most people would never notice. If you're the perfectionist type, then it will both you. I have them on my 'Train and the look and work great.
I have a heat gun and realize this is an ancient thread but I bought the softtail flush kit and was curious how the heat gun was used. Did you just heat it up in hand and then form/bend it around the tank or with it on the tank doing the same?Heat close to the paint worries me so Im hoping someone will reply considering the ancient nature of the thread.

Hey, just curious how your installation went? Did the heat gun work? Did it look okay without the heat fit? I was considering putting them on my new to me Deuce.
