Default Weird sound when riding

Last night I was riding my Springer when I heard a weird loud humming sound. It lasted about a mile or two at forty miles per hour then stopped. It sounded more electrical than a mechanical sound. I believe the high-beam had cut out when I heard the sound. When I got home, I inspected the bike, and I couldn't see any issues. I haven't ridden the bike today, but I was curious if anyone has experienced a similar situation.

Humming bird?

Seriously though, that’ll be hard to diagnose over the forum. If it’s electrical, it shouldn’t be speed or even motion dependent. Try to replicate it at home,

Haha, yeah, I plan on taking it out later today. After thinking about it, maybe it isn't electrical, and I'm in error about the high beam. I suppose a bad bearing could make a high-pitched squeal on a Hog.

Try to determine if it’s road speed or engine speed sensitive.

Just put a few miles on it, and it did make the noise again for a few seconds [at 35 mph]; after a half a mile down the road, I continued driving and nothing. I retraced my ride from last night to get an approximate distance when it started; it appears to have been for about one and a half miles before it stopped [25-45 mph].

can you tell whether it's coming from front, rear or center?

I don't know much, and even less about electrical, but can't recall shorts, cooking wires or bad connections make a "high pitched squeal"
Humms, buzzes, arc snaps yes, but hi-pitched squeal at particular speeds, I'm thinking mechanical.

does it make a difference if you pull the clutch in or change gears?
any difference in sound if you weave back and forth in your lane?

I doubt I'll be able to help, but know the more specifics you add will help the knowledgeable folks here help you

It sounded like it was coming from the front. For the last five years, it hasn't had much use except for the yearly washing and a few trips to the gas station for fresh gas and air in the tires. The noise started after putting on over two hundred miles this week. Today I put a few miles on it without incident.

I’d suspect front wheel bearings. Sometimes ya just gotta replace the most likely culprit and start from there.
