They both come with the pizza cutter front wheel.
I like the looks of the Softail Custom.

My buddy had an 87 back in the day (two tone red)
Got to ride it quite a bit
Shoulda bought it when he got his Dyna Wide Glide
I was still riding a shovelhead at the time

Handling on both can be improved with better shocks (hard to find), brake and suspension upgrades. My brother has the FXST and I the FXSTD but hard to compare because he has converted the front tire to a fat 17" wheel/tire combination. I do agree that the Deuce feels a bit top heavy at slow speeds but so what. I have a friend that rides a Deuce and he has had to weld a "skid" plate to his primary because he drags it in turns so I can't agree with 88's comment about lack of lean angle. I often ride fairly aggressively but I don't need a skit plate on the bottom of my primary yet.

IMHO, the only drawback to the Deuce is the lack of aftermarket accessories. When you go on line and look for stuff, "expect the Deuce" often pops up. Another thing to consider is that anytime you have to go into the primary, say to replace the IPB race or get into the top of the transmission, the oil tank has to come off which is a major PITA compared to a Dyna or touring model.

At one time, I had three bikes in the garage, the Deuce, an '02 FLHT and a BMW R9T but have downsized to one bike; the Deuce.

The Dyna may handle better, maybe its the weight , the geometry of the bike. IDK, but I can assure you I carve the same roads on my Heritage I did on my Super Glide, the only difference I see is I'm draggin the boards a lil more on my Heri then I did pegs on the Dyna, But the FXDI definitely dragged. I'll chalk it up to rider experience and how low you wana lean. The ole Dyna will lean, but so wont my Heritage.

OP, get what hits you the hardest. When I walked into the garage to look at my Heritage for the first time, I spun around, looked at the GF and she said, "yeah I know, that's the one" and we looked at over a dozen bikes together. You'll know it when you see it. Don't take our advice.

softails look great because of the lack of the outside shock, but they have very limited travel nothing is easily adjustable.
if you really want a bike that many consider to be the best factory, look for a FXR

I agree with all these guys. At speed the Deuce is a great machine. I like how low I sit in the frame and simply how comfortable it is. I have an Indian Roadmaster, a Freewheeler, and two old shovelheads. plus the Deuce. Out of all of them, the Deuce is the most comfortable. I think the forward controls make it feel nice.

I have an STC so I'm biased. I love the damn thing. They are very similar. Sit on both of them and pick the one that you like best. They are very similar.

You went with the right choice. I like the classic 80s look the Custom has, the Duce was supposed to be a "factory custom" with the extended tank and rear fender but misses the mark IMO.
