I have thought about a more permanent mounted bar, but I like the naked look and for now I'll primarily ride without a bar/bag.
I saw that HD has some lock latches available for their quick detach stuff, might pick those up at some point. I agree, it's an easy target for a would be thief, but then again with a sharp knife they could cut the straps to an attached pack. I do park my bike outside at an apartment
. I have covered parking, and its attached to the parking structure iron pole with a 14mm hardened chain and lock and a few other things. I don't plan to leave it attached, but mainly for the 250 mile ride to and from my mom/grandpa's area, and then some small grocery runs. I appreciate all the thoughts though.

As to the "theft" issue, I've been fortunate enough to live in some great cities (Los Angeles, San Diego, Venice Beach, New York City, Washington DC, etc.), and used to park my Harley overnight on the street in all of these places. Never once did anyone steal something from the bike, and I'd often run loaded saddlebags latched with simple leather straps and also quick-detach sissy bars. I pity the fool who messes with another man's Harley (channeling Mr. T!).
Actually, I'll take that back - slightly. I did have a cover for the Harley when I parked it outside in Venice Beach. One morning it was missing, but I think a homeless dude wanted it for shelter! I'm OK with that one. ;-)
Cheers!

You're lucky....
I was living in Redondo Beach in July 1980, when my 1978 FXS Lowrider (bought new in may 1978) was stolen from my locked garage in an apartment complex......
I miss that bike.......
