Default Idle on EFI

I recently pruchased an 07 Night Train. I have installed V&H short shots staggered's, Forcewinder intake and a PCIII. When I ride the bike and come to a stop, my idle appears to be running high. I dont have a tach so I can't tell for sure what the exact RPM's are, but I know it is higher than the normal idle. It sounds like it may be idling around 2,000, and at times either a quick burp of throttle or after about a minute sitting at a red light, the idle backs down to where it should be. I have asked the shop that installed all the items and they told me that there is no adjustment in the PCIII for the idle, and that if it continues they would look into it.

Let me know what your take on it is. I dont have alot of experience with harleys since this is my 1st one, and I have never worked with power commanders before either.

thanks [8D]

My '07 softy does the same thing and I have the SERT on it. I think it's just the ecm holding the idle up.

Yeah, that's kind of what I figured, but feel there has got to be a way to get the idle to come down quicker. I can be riding in 2nd gear through town and it feels as if I have the cruise control on and can run about 20 mph without touching the throttle.

You might want to adjust both throttle cables. I guess I'll be the Black Sheep and say your idle concern does not sound normal. My Heritage started that speratic fast idle once and a cable adjustment fixed it.

i have the pcIII also, i would say that you need to zero out the throttle position. hook a laptop to the pcIII and will will see that the throttle is at about 7% at idle, it needs to be at zero. i had to do it to mine after i installed the pcIII. hope this will solve your idle issue.

My 07 will sometimes idle high, though not often. After a minute or two it will be back to normal. Also my bike is in its stock configuration.

My 07 Deuce is stock and its been doing this a little lately. One morning it was idling so high it was like it didnt come off warm up. I had to cut the switch off and do the reset thing twice and it cleared up. Not been as bad since. Gonna have it checked out next time at Sandhills for service unless it goes south on me.

I've done some research on this problem and here's what I found out. The fast Idle is normal and has to be set at 1000 to 1100 rpm's for hot idle and 1200 to 1400 rpm's for cold idle. The idle has to be that fast for the oil to circulate correctly when stopped. There is also an installed air sensor that will spike your Idle rpm's if it senses a slight rush of air at idle. These are both normal to the new 07's and 08's. My deluxe has Vance & Hines and PCIII installed and it does the same thing. Isn't the new bikes loverly. You can thank the EPA for all this crap.
