Default Tank Question ?

I have a 2001 FXSTSI with a dent in the tank (I bought it this way) and know of a brand new never mounted tank for a 2007 FLSTCI for a reasonable price!
can anyone tell me if these tanks are interchangeable ? one source says no and the other says yes, so I don't know what to believe?
anyone out there know if these two tanks are compatible?
Thanks in advance!!

if the 2001 is carberated then it wont fit because the 2007 is fuel injected and doesnt have a petcock

Injected tanks are the same from 2001 to 07. A primed 07 FLSTC tank carries part # 61625-01E, same part # is listed for the 01 FXSTSI.

As mentioned above, carbureted tanks are not interchangeable with FI tanks.

my 2001 FXSTSI is fuel injected so it sounds like I may have scored!

sound like I may be in business, what was throwing me off is when I looked up a tank for a 2007 FLSTCI it always listed fitment from 2007-20017 and when I looked up 2001 FLSTCI it would show fitment from 2001-2007 unless 2007 FLSTCI used two different tanks that year? I guess I am about to find out.

My info comes from the factory parts books. I can tell you that the 08-17 tanks have different part #s, but are very similar. I used an 08 tank sending unit plate on my 04 when I did a heritage instrument panel swap.
