As previously posted my wife bought a 08 Deluxe and that thing will cook you. She got to put some good miles on it this evening and when we got back to the shop she said "this bike runs allot hotter than my Heritage"...LOL All I could say was I told ya so. New pipes, power commander and SE intake are all on order and it will be running syn once it gets to the first service.
Mines an '06 and it ran pretty hot when I first got it.......250 regardless of the ride, air temp, whatever. Saw it hit 270 once......."once", that was it for me, flip me over Im done on this side, lol.
Anyway, changed the pipes, did the HD download, went with Amsoil...still ran about 230, better but still kinda hot. Put a PCIII on it and after a map change or two Im happy. Rode 200 miles yesterday with outside temps at 100, the oil temp never went above 210. sounds better as well.
I cant compare the '06 to the '08, no experience there, but the heat issue was/is not exclusive to the '08 models.
Good luck
I haven't noticed any temp difference between my '07 and my last HD, which was a Dyna. And give me a month and a half and I'll be wishing my bike ran a lot hotter to keep my legs warm in the upcoming cool/cold weather.
I'm a new poster here and was wondering what you mean by all "three holes" I have an '02 FLSTCIwhich seems to be running hotter that normal. I plan to get a exact reading tomorrow.
Thanks
GEESE
Just installed Python staggered duels, PC III and Big Sucker. Can't believe the difference. The left side is now hotter than the right, but it is very acceptable, and I'm riding in Florida. Couldn't have been a better investment for my '07 Heritage.

He means that he's using Amsoil products in the Engine, Primary, and the Tranny, all three holes.
Many, if not most of the other bikes around, even Sporty's generally only have one or at most two "Holes" for the oil. Big Twin Harley's havethe three functional area's seperated and they each have their own oil supply.
My 07' Softail Deluxe had the same problem but is running much cooler now that it is well broken in at 4500 mi. Typically it ran between 235 to 255 degrees for the first 3000 mi or so. Now it consistantly runs between 225 to 235 in any temperature and I'm in No.Calif and it can get hot here. I have the stage 1 setupwith no aftermarket tuner.
Thanks Citoriplus.
I just recorded my oil temp at about 250.
I'm running the HD synthetic oil, but how hot is too hot on these?
It's an '02 with 6000 miles, do you think I need to see a dealer?
Thanks,
Geese
My 2008 FatBoy runs hot as heck too, takes 2-3 hours to cool down after a ride.
I was debating waiting for '08s to come out to see if the MoCo was going to work on the heat issue when I bought my '07. Glad I didn't wait....
I'll throw my .02 as well about switching to synthetic oil and going with pipes and a fuel managment system. As soon as I did my bike feels as cool as any other liquid cooled one I've ever rode. That says a lot considering July here in the great state of UT was one of the hottest ever with average day time temps of 100+.
