Default Inner Primary Removal (04'FXSTS)

hello,
read alot on this fourum about having to remove the oil tank to access the starter bolt. Some have suggested removing the real wheel and access to the rear fender panel. My question, can i do this without having to remove the rear tire?
all feedback welcomed!
thanks

You need to remove your inner primary, correct....??

You are looking for a way to remove the starter, without removing the oil tank, to get off the inner primary, correct...??

I have no personal experience with this..... but there are several who claim to do that by just removing the starter bolts via an extra long allen head for the forward bolt, and an extra long allen head with a swivel for the rear bolt. Then just leave the starter lying on the trans, to remove the inner primary..

No removal of the starter, the oil tank, or the rear wheel.... just unbolt the starter and let it lay there.... I would un-hook the battery, just so the hot lead on the starter isn't live while it's just lying there...

Here's a thread about that technique. Pay particular attention to posts 9, 12, & 13.

There are a couple other threads with similar comments...

Thanks correct. I am looking to remove the inner primary.

thanks for the info. Looks real tight to fit in anything to access those bolts. But I’ll give it a try and report back!
