Default Windshield for 2006 Fatboy

New to the forum... I bought a 2006 Fatboy and looking at purchasing a windshield for it... Everywhere I look online (and I've looked for hours), it appears the width at the bottom of the quick release mounts on the windshield (the distance from side to side) is typically 14.5 inches (such as in the photo I've attached)... But the width between the lower grommets on my bike is only 12.75 inches.

I've found some nice used windshields but afraid none of them will fit, despite them all being listed as coming off similar year fatboys... Anyone able to offer me any help/insight?

My father in law has a CVO of that year, with what appears to be a HD windshield. If you want more info, I might see it tomorrow.

i'm not going to be much help as my windshield that fits my 03 Fatboy is 13 1/4 where this one says 14 1/2
mine is 17 1/2 where this one says 20 1/2,
I was looking for a taller one for mine which is 23 1/2 where this one is 26 1/2 so this one looks like what HD calls a 21" I think
So the one in your picture is definitely taller than mine but doesn't look like it will fit my quick release of 13 1/4 where this one says 14 1/2....?
I was told the 1999 - 2006 were all the same but apparently not.
Told you I wasn't going to be much help. Let me know how you make out and welcome to the forum.

The photo I attached yesterday is of one I saw online for sale, and others I've seen online were similar with the width being 14.5 inches at the bottom between grommets. But my Harley measures 12.75 inches from the left grommet to the right grommet (across the forks) and that's where I'm not sure of things.

Photos below are my Fatboy... Do these forks look stock for a 2006 Harley?... If so, wonder why none of the used windshields I'm seeing online match my measurement of 12.75 inches across at the bottom grommets.

Width is different for bikes with passing lamps than without.

Your question made me curious.....

Do you know if your windshield mount hardware is HD or aftermarket....?? I don't believe the Fatboy came with a windshield OEM...

I have an '03 Heritage with an OEM windshield. It is exactly 13.5" between the centers of the grommets for both the upper and lower attachment points.

There are spacers between the edge of the front panel and the mounts for the detachable windshield, that make both upper and lower spacing equal. There is a wider spacer at the top, and smaller spacer at the bottom. Those spacers are shown as #30 top and #24 bottom, in this pic...

When I zoom in on your bike pic, I don't see those spacers... So I wonder if you have aftermarket mounts, or something was done to your HD mounts....???

Additionally, although a Heritage and a Fatboy have the front panel and not a nacelle like on a road king, HD makes three windshield kits. One for bikes with front panels, one for a nacelle with passing lamps, and one with a nacelle without passing lamps. I have no idea what the differences are, but it suggests there are differences between the three mounts and/or curves of the windshields at there bottom ends..

IMHO..... Since the FatBoy didn't come OEM with a windshield... you need to determine what windshield mounts you have... then you'll know what windshields should fit.

Since I have no idea how to figure that out, the other option would be to get new windshield mounts, and then search for windshields to match those mounts...

I hope this helps a little. It at least gives you food for thought...

Good luck with yoru windshield search...

PS- here's a couple pics showing those "stand off" spacers between the front panel and the windshield mounts on my '03 Heritage..

I appreciate the time in sharing insight... I just bought the bike late fall and bought from a dealer, so not sure what windshield it had on it previously. I assume it had a windshield since it has grommets on it.

I don't know if these are stock forks but assume they are. But if they are, then not sure why I'm having trouble finding a used fatboy windshield with the same measurements as the bottom grommets.

Note: The width between the top grommets different than the width between the bottom grommets. The width between the upper grommets is 12 inches (whereas I had mentioned the bottom grommets are 12.75 inch width)... So no spacers on the top grommets to make them the same width as between bottom grommets... But not sure if this matters as I'm guess a lot of windshields are set up for this (if these are stock forks) and I assume the prior owner must have had a windshield (or these are stock forks), since there are grommets installed.

I bought a Harley windshield from eBay, retained the hardware and swapped out the shield for new Long Ride Shields glass.
Then I bought a few different sized spacers and got the mounts to whatever width I needed them when I decided to put a detachable windshield on my 2002 Fat Boy.
