1995 FLSTN - Loud tapping noise from right hand side
I just purchased this bike and the first two days were the best rides of my life ( which is saying something ).
Today I started the bike and a very loud tapping noise seemed to be coming from the right side of the engine. I also noticed emissions of hot air near the rod shafts.
The bike has an Anders cam but I did not do the install and no very little about adjustments.
Has anyone had this problem ? and fixed it ?
Is there anything an amateur mechanic can do to diagnose/repair the problem or do you recommend a dealer visit ( whose backlog is already 2 weeks ).

.
Could be be a cam bearing, could be a lifter, could be an adjustable pushrod come loose, could be lots of things
Won`t know till you ( or someone else) opens it up and looks
Pull down on the pushrod collar and remove the upper pushrod keeper. Pull up the outer pushrod tube as shown in the photo and check to see if your pushrods are loose. It sounds like an O ring is not seated properly, check it with your finger. This is a simple operation and you won't hurt anything checking them.
and thank you for your input --- It will be a learning experience. I think I will look into the adjustable pushrod angle because this is where the hot air emissions occur.
