I own both.. Street bob is a fun bike... But after owning a soft tail for a while, Thats the one I ride every day.. Many more parts, and much more comfortable....
Test Ride. After riding each for a few minutes you will know how you feel about engine vibes. Other differences are more minor and can be changed with aftermarket parts.
My last HARLEY with back shocks was 1974 A.M.F. HARLEY SUPERGLIDE, I bought it used in 1982 with 4000 miles on it, and a whopping $3000.00 but had custom paint job and was never rode, but once I squared it away it was my love! Never had to change oil it leaked so much it was like transfusion, but it rode O.K. had a Corbin Gentry seat on it, now I think it's just Corbin, but went to DAYTONA on it, rode from VIDOR, TX, and back, it was a decent bike for then 74 C.I. a kick and sometimes electric start, but once I rode a SOFT TAIL I was hooked! I never went back to a dyna type HARLEY, but the dyna guys are going to say how much better they can corner or how fast they corner than SOFT TAIL but I like the ride you get on the big road which you will be doing most of your riding, but if you need a canyon carver save your money and buy jap (metric) and drag a knee! GOOD LUCK!! PURPLE HAZE.
The Dyna will ride slightly smoother because the swingarm is lighter, so there is less unsprung weight.
The Softail will run a whole lot smoother because of the counterbalanced engine. This means you will last longer riding and there will be fewer problems with things shaking loose.
now, this is a personal opinion, but the Softail looks more correct to me because I had grown into motorcycle age before the Duoglide came out, and bikes with engines that move around on the frame had serious problems back then..
i sat on a st custom today and i really liked it. the only ting i did not like was some of the chrome coverings. i could always change those out though. i tink i may be sold
I have owned 4 Softtails and am buying another (RockerC). I say go with thecounterbalanced engine of the Softtail. I think they lookcleaner, no shocks to look at!
