I just bought a 2009 Heritage Softail Classic with certified less than 2000 miles. It runs perfect and seems to be perfect in every way except when the engine first starts there is a thump or clunk. It happens just as the engine fires and there isn’t any other noise for the rest of the ride. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
If the "thump or clunk" only happens when starting the bike I would lean towards the starter as the culprit. If the "thump or clunk" also happened when shutting the bike down I would say it was the compensator. Others with more experience than I will chime in.
