I'm running into a pretty complex fitting problem of getting new exhaust to fit onto my 2012 Dyna FLD while keeping my floorboards. Wish you luck, I'll be watching this thread.
Welcome to the forums! Be sure to introduce yourself in the welcome section. The general consensus has been that while the Evo and Twin Cam head pipes are interchangeable as they mount to the cylinder heads (with some mods possibly required for mounting bracketry depending on the model) most will say that the M8 pipes will not fit older models. However there has been some instances here where they have posted that they made M8 pipes fit a Twin Cam....but....even if you can fit these pipes to the cylinder heads you still would fall into the mounting bracketry problems...maybe closer on touring models due to the overall chassis being mostly the same but I would think overall, you'd have more mounting problems on older bikes like Dynas and original Softails due to the complete difference in the chassis.
I guess the real question is how bad do you want/need to use that M8 exhaust?....a lot is possible if modding and fabrication is an option I suppose. You mention Short Shot pipes...these are plentiful on the TC platform new and used, maybe that would be a better option?....unless you're scoring these for free or some other cost or availability option? (i've been there lol)
While the differences between these fitments could be as simple as different mounting brackets, and/or additional spacers/hardware to move footboards, or passenger pegs, or ???, it could also be a different head pipe shape....
It is obvious from their fitment chart that a 2020 Fatbob exhaust system won't bolt right up to a 2015 FXST without some "attention"....
What exactly that "attention" entails, I don't know for sure....
