Due to my (unnecessary) hacking of the current Tins to get the new windscreen to fit I am getting new Tins sometime today. The question then is how do I get the complete Head Light off of the bike so I can change out the Tins?
Once the headlight is removed, you'll need to remove one of the ends of the headlight harness, to remove the front panel.. I THINK I did it at the headlight, but it was awhile ago and I really don't remember...
Best to consult a factory service manual, but this may help....

It has to come apart together. Once the tins are loose, remove the thru bolt on the H/L
Easy to remove. Putting back together is a PITA. My bike had one of those rattlin' nacelles
on it. Those are cake because the H/L bolts to that. Putting the Heritage tins and the H/L
back on was comical.
Thanks guys and I know about the tins - that's why I had to get new ones Trying to line everything up is a 100% PITA.
As for the headlight removal though, that looks to be only two bolts and the wiring harness - hmm I'll have to take a closer look when I change out the windscreen.
