Bus Er on 2011 Deluxe CVO
"Bus Er" often results from a bad connection....
I believe 2011 is the first year for the CanBus system on softails... It seems something in that system isn't communicating with the ECM or BCM...
As to the Dealer....
Are you saying that you had "Bus Er" message, the dealership replaced the speedometer to fix it, and you still have the "Bus Er" message....???
If this is the case, take it back and tell them to fix it right this time... Plus I'd want a considerable refund on the unnecessary Speedo replacement...!
Or did they replace the Speedo to fix another issue and then the "Bus Er" now showed up....?
In this case, I'd suspect the Speedo connector...
If neither of the above, then it is probably something that was touched, moved, bumped while installing the exhaust..
For the IAC operation, I'd pull and check the IAC connector...
There is a way to check the IAC, I would do that along with the other checks....
In any case, it started immediately after the Dealer worked on it... the odds are they caused it... accidents do happen... I'd want them to make it right, and pay special attention to what they say is the cause...
The fact that they immediately said it was a "coincidence", without so much as an inspection of their work, suggests they will be unlikely to admit it was their issue... If they want to charge you to fix it.... I'd most likely use another shop, I doubt they will be honest about the cause if it turns out to be their issue...
Good luck with your repair...

The dealership thought it was the speedo causing the error, but unfortunately it wasn't. They're not shying away from the possibility of the issue being caused from the exhaust install, which I appreciate. I'll pass along your advice on testing since they haven't been able to figure it out just yet. Thanks again!
Wow.... It's hard to imagine, in this day and age, that a dealer would just sell you a new speedo on a guess..... There are ways to check these things out... The HD Electrical diagnostic manual is full of tests and flow charts to help pinpoint electrical issues...
It would seem that they didn't bother to diagnose your issue and just took a wild *** guess.... But I can't say for sure why they replaced the speedo..???
Obviously I don't have all the facts in this case, but if it went down as you report... I would be questioning the dealer's integrity and/or competence....
FWIW......
I haven't found a dealer yet that is accepting of any information found on the internet.... And with good reason....
My guesses are just that, guesses, based on what you have reported. I have not inspected your bike myself, nor do I have any independent information on the issue. I only have second hand info from you, and know nothing of what the dealer did, or did not do... I would totally understand them not giving a hoot about my suggestions...
My advice would be to go back to them, report to them it's not fixed, and what you have heard happening with the IAC. I would also tell them your are very unhappy about paying for a new speedo that was apparently totally unnecessary, because it didn't fix your bike...
Based on how they respond......... I would try to make a judgement call on their intentions and their integrity... I would then either leave my bike with them to make it right, or I would ride away and find another dealer...
If you go elsewhere, and another shop fixes it... I would then go back to the first dealer, armed with that information, and demand a refund for the unnecessary work they performed on your bike.
Anyways, good luck with your repair.... Keep us posted on your progress and the eventual repair...
