Anything less that 250 is ok, regardless of the setup. Breakdown occurs at temps closer to 300, its a matter of comfort to the legs and ****!!!

HDs have a engine oil, primary oil and transmission = 3 holes to check and change. On a Softail the Oil Tank (under the seat is engine oil and check by dip stick, the transmission fill and check is on the right side below the oil tank on the transmission and has a dip stick and the primary on the left side of the engine , no dip stick either remove the Derby Cover or the primary chain inspection cover (pre 07) to add or check.

Thats where mine runs according to the dip stick thermometer, but I dont put too much stock in it. I figure change the oil often and dont really worry about it.

The dip stick temperature guages vary greatly as to their accuracy. To test yours hold it in a pot of water. When the water boils the temp should indicate 212. Depending on your altitude it may vary bt a degree or so.

Just got my '08 Heritage last week. Thinking about what to add on before the end of summer. After reading this thread, I'm guessing that an oil cooler would be a wise choice. Someone said that Jagg makes the part for HD. After going on Jagg's site, I see that they are quite a bit less expensive than the HD branded version. Anyone had any experiences adding a Jagg cooler to their FLSTC? What about warranty issues?

I wouldn't worry about an oil cooler, cool the engine by adding stage I and fuel management to get the bike to run optimally first. Oil coolers are really only needed if you are doing long trips in really high heat areas.

That makes sense... I notice the only time it really runs hotter is at stops, and an oil cooler isn't going to help there. I just need to keep it rolling, but that's a bit tough to do here in Southern California!

Hey, Thx Smokin. I'm adding an EFI Race Tuner Kit, SE A/C Kit & Python III Stag Dual pipes, just waiting on parts.
