I am wanting to get a Softail off the ground for the winter. Vintage 2007. I have done a lot of searching but most posts are very old. What is the best way to do it? It would also be nice to be able to use the device for maintenance,
No just to keep the wheels up of the concrete. I do use mouse traps too though. I am looking for a jack or something I guess. I figure people here have some innovative ways.
Buy a jack? There's tons of videos on YouTube for homemade "jacks"...I personally wouldn't put my bike on a couple of 2x4s I screwed together but it probably works ,just not for me. A few times at work I've used the electric hoist over my bench to lift my bike to change a tire. If your roof is strong enough you could suspend it from there...but I still like the idea of a jack.
To my knowledge dealers who offer storage don't raise bikes for the winter. I never have. If doing with bike, does one need to do the same for a riding lawnmower?

I'm not sure it's necessary, but if I were to do it, I would use my J&S jack... It's a solid, sturdy jack, that would allow for moving the bike around even while stored on the jack.
I've used one for maintenance on both my Softails and Bagger for years. Even now that I have a lift table, I still use the jack for some things...
NOTE: Most J&S jacks are operated by a foot pedal on a manual bottle jack. I changed mine over to an air/hydraulic jack many years ago...

My brother and a handfull of knockleheads like him beleive leaving a bike stored over the winter creates flat spots on the tires. I have never experienced this, and never came across someone who has.
In 40 years of riding I have never jacked a single bike up off the tires, might with this one
But I need a jack, and I would then rather set it down on 6x6's, not sure how to do that, will need to look under the bike
Full dresser & even my Fat Boy are heavier than any other bike
And even with cars that are stored for the Winter they do say to jack them up
Same as camping trailers, my neighbor jacks his up to take some of the weight off the tire
