i went tri-bar because of brightness
I just hated the original piece of junk the factory put on. Its the same damn lens they use on almost every bike they make and frankly looks out of place on the back of the ducktail fendered Softails. Especially with the new wider tire sizes, it doesn't fill it up as nicely as the Tribar. That its also brighter is a happy benifit.
Yep, LED's are brighter than incandecent bulbs. If you are looking right at them. Problem is, we aren't. LED's are directional while incandecent's are more dispersed. This effect maifests itself more so during daylight. The Tri-Bar has more LED's in it than the average LED bulb. Much easier to see even in daylight. I wouldchoose LED panels over LED bulbs in any application, including turn signals.
Im wondering if some one makes the incandecent L.E.D.tail lightwith the amber L.E.D.turn signals incorperated in them! I think it would clean up the fender with no turn signals and just plug old holes H.D. badgeplugs. I found one for my YZF R-1

You can get the Panacea Tail Light that's sold by Custom Dynamics or Kuryakyn. Its not an incandecent and LED setup. Itsan all LED tailight, but it does have the LED turn signal incorporated in it.
Im surprised to here all the negatives about the Kyrakyn led light? Mine is great, at least its the brightest rear light Ive ever had on a bike, especially for the price

Not all LED's are created equal. Some are much brighter than others, and while they are directional, some have wider viewing angles than others. The Kuryakyn tail light does have more LED's than the tri-bar; the problem is they aren't as good.
here's my set up, but seriously thinking of going w/the HD tribar...
I cut the plastic plate holder off and put a sidemount on....
everything is smoke lenses...I just have the brakes on.....
The problem is the low lay down smoked lens is it's upside down on the bob tail fender, and the leds are at the wrong angle, so there not as bright as they would be if the lens was turned over like on a wrap around fender.. My wife has one on her Dyna and it is bright, but it's right side up as oposed to upside down like on the bob tail fenders,Just my .02
