Sluggish starting
Morning all from the sunny (hahahah) UK
Any ideas on an issue I've ben having? Recently (for the last couple of months) when starting my 2014 Breakout, it feels like its struggling to turn over on starting. Almost like the battery is flat. So bit the bullet and bought a new battery, but the issue still remains even on full brand new charge. Sometimes I've noticed that when it starts, albeit sluggishly, that the trip will have reset (if I had it on revs and gears, it's back to mileometer).
Any ideas? Could it be the sty tarter motor on its way, or something else?? Apologies, not very technical and wanted your opinions before I take it further.
Thanks all in advance
Cheers
Shaun

Electrical glitches can be caused by many things.... you need to be systematic in your approach to narrow down the causes. It's best to start with the easy ones first...
Anytime I have a power issue, I always start with the battery and cables. While not common, it's not unheard of to get a bad battery right from the store...
I'd load test the battery after giving it a full charge, then check all cables, especially the grounds, for corrosion or being loose. Most softails have a battery negative cable that attaches just forward of the battery to the frame, just under the front of the seat. That gound bolt is known for working loose, so check that specifcally.
Once all the 12 volt power is confirmed to be good, I check for codes. Write down any codes present, then clear them. See if any return.... If a code returns, then post it up here. It should give you a place to start your diagnosis...
Good luck and post up what you find...

I had trouble starting my Twin Cam Softail after upgrading to a high compression 117. I tried all sorts of tests and fixes but long story short, I replaced my stock battery cables with Sumax 2 gauge cables and it now starts right up.
