I'VE GOT AN 04"FXSTBI NIGHT TRAIN WITHVANCE & HINES BIG TUBES, & WHATEVER RE-MAPPING THAT WAS REQUIRED.( I BOUGHT IT USED.)68/80 MPH. HWY MILES 50 MPG!!! YEAH BABY!! I HAD A COUPLE OF TANKS THAT WER ONLY IN THE MID 40'S AND I WAS BUMMED. BUT THE LAST THREE TANKS WER 50 & BETTER! HOPE IT LASTS. MY COMMUTE IS 37 MILES ON FLAT OPEN ROAD COLD IN THE 05:00 MOURNINGS & LIKE A CONVECTION OVEN IN 18:30 EVENINGS.
My 'ol girl ('97 Fatboy) averages around 39 mpg with mostly hard country road riding. Now on the highway, she does around 45-46. It's running too rich at the moment though, so once I fix that it should get better fuel mileage.
Most of my riding is in the suburbs of Philly and into Jersey and I've been getting steadily 48 to 52 mpg, but I ride conservativly. I think it all depends on how you ride, the harder you twist the throttle the less mpg's. I also tuned my bike with an Air Fuel ratio gauge for how I ride.
I have an 03 heritage with a larger pilot jet in the carb (runs perfect) and it gets around 50mpg. I had a 98 FXSTC, same set up, it got about 50, Had a 80" shovel got about 50. Had Sporsters that really got great mileage until recarbed and modified
.I have a buddy with a springer softail that a local dealer tuned and he gets about 35mpg. You can smell the raw fuel especially at low speeds, He thinks the shopcan do no wrong ,so I just ride ahead of the fumes.
