Default Stuck gas cap

The gas cap on my brand-new-to-me 2017 Heritage doesn't want to come off. Yes, it's the right-side one, not the gauge side. You can reach the stop on both ends of its rotation, both clockwise (closed) and counter-clockwise (open) but it just doesn't pop open and hasn't moved with prying fingers either. I am pressing down while opening it (tried it without pressing down as well) but no dice. Tried tapping the edge to break any stickiness, also no dice. Any advice welcome.

Mine did that on an older bike. Sometimes the spring starts to go or overfilling or riding down to low fuel can cause pressure that doesn’t let it pop up. I just used a tool to pry it out from the open position. Never bought the setup again.

There was another thread a short while back same issue. Try a search to see if that thread yields any results.

Searched the forum, seems there have been a variety of gas cap problems, but mostly just difficult not impossible to remove. I have enough gas to get to the dealer today, see what they can do about it.

Keep us posted, I'm curious to know what the issue was for future reference.

My new to me 2017 with a stock HD cap needed getting used to. On undoing it will turn with very little pressure and then stop. It requires quite a lot of pressure to turn it from there.

If you have used a professional woodworking router it is the same as the tool chuck. It is a safety thread that goes tight.
