Engine light
I have a 2000 1450 twin cam fsxt carb. Model. Recently had an issue with it cutting out after 20 miles or so, running ngk iridium plugs, had good spark on front cylinder,(single fire ignition), no or intermittent weak spark on rear cylinder.
Swooped iridium plugs fir standard, no improvement, suspected faulty rear cylinder for spark lead, changed both leads for new ones, coul tested ok but give variable readings on primary so changed for new. NO CODES on speedo when holding trip down and turning it notion on. But there is a RED ENGINE light on,( this is the word engine, not a symbol, also have so.e backfiring, ( this could be the new Maverick Rusher exhausts just fitted.
Any ideas what/why the Red engine light is on, how do you reset it?
Cheers

On the older Twin Cams (like pre-2005ish) there is more to checking for codes than just holding down the trip button like on newer models. It's a little bit of dance, but you can find the procedure on a search or it's in the electrical diagnostic manual. Forgive my laziness for not typing it all out... It involves jumping a wire in the diagnostic connector and then reading the number of times the engine light flashes...
Back firing is most likely because you changed exhaust and didn't re-tune the carb. There are good tutorials on the CV40 carb (assuming your carb is OEM) at this site.

Good luck with your diagnostics and tuning...
