That is a good point... cold works ok too... plus you can hang a little towel behind your pipes to catch the over spray.... he's right... be really careful around the painted surfaces... also I usually watch the fumes too... use your t-shirt or a mask...
I have used oven cleaner and it works ok but I picked up this stuff called ROAD RUB it looks like a travel deoderant stick but have prove easier and much less chance for error I picked mine up at the dealership but you may be able to find it online.
the directions state: This product utilizes a dry cleaning method. Allow chrome to cool down. Remove Cap. Press stick firmly against chrome and rub vigorously. Wash and rinse chrome.
I almost alway polish the easy to reach chrome ie. my pipes, air cleaner, oil tank etc. so i've never paid attention to whether it needs to be polished or if its ok with just a wash and rinse off with that let me say i don't spend 4 hours polishing either it's a quick once over.
Sea foam carb cleaner, dab some on let it set 2 or 3 min., wipe off.
safe, no abrasives, easy to control where it gets dabbed on.
try it, you won't need anything else.
