wrinkle black paint

I have some small items that I want to paint. I have Harley's wrinkle black and need to know the best way to prep the metal to avoid chipping and/or peeling. Is is just a matter of cleaning and spraying or are there other things I need to do.

Also, if anyone has experience with it. How durable is the wrinkle black spray compared to the parts that come from the factory?

I wrinkle black a lot of small parts, as well as some major ones. Usually just clean well and let 'er rip. Spray on several fairly heavy coats, just to the point of running. Then stick 'em under a work lamp and they'll wrinkle right well. They aren't nearly as durable as the factory coating, but since you can touch 'em up, I never worry about it; I'm too busy riding. I wrinkle black my barrels, heads, part of the cases, oil pump, hand shift lever & linkage, brake pedal, tranny cases. Even do them on the bike by masking off stuff I don't want painted. Usually lasts well enough for a riding season, and I ride nearly year round, about 20 - 30 thousand miles a year.
