I think you are condemning the transmission way too early.

First disconnect the shift linkage from the lever on the transmission.

Make sure the linkage moves freely.

Check the shift lever on the transmission, make sure it is tight on the shaft, absolutely no wobble.

Let us know the results.

Please don’t be shy I like seeing pics like that and learning. I’ve assembled and blue printed a stock 4 speed, I did a 5 in a 4 from swap meet parts that turned it great and I just did a 6 speed gear set with a few baker upgrades.. don’t keep me in the dark lol.

So are you thinking the really tall lever is at an exaggerated height, making it hard to shift? Any chance your talking about Mr Harris passing? Are you near Shelby Ohio?
