Default 2001 FXSTS needs new wheel

I have a 2001 FXSTS Springer and several of the front spokes have rust on them. There is a deep scratch on the rim, and the hub has some corrosion.

The bike needs new tires, so I want to replace the front wheel. The OEM version is no longer available from the MoCo, so what is a good aftermarket wheel ?

I want a 40 spoke, OEM looking wheel... nothing fancy, but a well made wheel.

I've seen "V-Twin", "V-Factor", Drag specialties, and "Hard drive" wheels..... For all I know, they are all the same wheel with different branding.

Anyone have any experience with any of those wheels? Any others to consider.....?

Thanks in advance for your opinions/experience......

FWIW... This is my first experience with replacing a spoked wheel. I have checked/tightened/re-torqued spokes on the bike before, but never disassembled a spoked wheel. Once I get a new wheel with a new tire on the bike, I will take apart the OEM wheel, clean it up, re-lace it with new spokes, and re-true it... That will be my first spoke wheel rebuild and I would rather do it at my leisure. I will keep that rebuilt wheel (with it's flaws on the rim & hub) as a spare. I don't want to leave the bike apart as I learn about spoke wheel rebuilding while taking my time.

@hattitude I had my Indy order me new replacement wheels a couple years back, they were Drags. I'm a little over the top but to me the wheels looked like junk, what was supposed to be chrome hubs looked more yellow and tarnished. I sent them back. But this winter I'm planning on
doing the front only, because like yours it's seen better days. I'm leaning towards the V-Twin this time around. Hope this helps.

I'm leaning towards "V-Twin". Not sure if they make the wheels themselves, but at least I have some experience with V-Twin products

I used the V-Twin spring tensioners w/Cyco pads, twice on cam chest upgrades. They worked well and looked to be good quality... same as OEM as far as I could tell, well except for the better Cyco pads.

My research shows that V-Twin offers two front wheels. One with polished stainless steel spokes (my choice) and one with chrome steel spokes.... I saw one old review about the V-Twin SS spoke wheel and it was pretty glowing about them.

The V-Twins are imported.....mostly everything is today. I was looking at, but don't see the need to drop $800 on a Ride Write.

Have to drop a link, all I came across was chrome spokes for my 05 FLSTCI. Keep us/me posted.

FWIW for your model, GMA 2007 listed 44607-05 as an option, if there are any still around - like the OE 43676-05A it's also no longer available from H-D. (BTW the OE outer rim 43662-80B appears to still be available.)

I didn't check for your bike.... yet, the wheels on my 2003 Heritage will be inspected closely next....

But I noticed while searching around for the 21" front wheel on my '01 Springer, V-Twin offers two wheels.

One with polished SS spokes:

And the same wheel, but with chrome spokes:

I have a V-Twin front 40-spoke wheel that looks to be same P/N that you're looking at for sale on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/275054802699. It's also listed in marketplace here...just haven't bumped it up in the listings for a while, so I'm sure it's buried a few pages back.

Anyway, it's in good condition, has a slight scratch in chrome on rim but structurally sound.

Don't know if you're looking for brand new or are open to used, but just thought I'd mention it. Asking less than half of MSRP and am open to discussion. Mods, if not cool for me to mention a "for-sale" item in this post, many apologies in advance...not trying to break any rules or overstep...just putting it out there.
