Vance and Hines short shots
On my carbureted 2002 Harley fat boy I have added a set of short shots from Vance and Hines. Now I have a backfire or popping noise on decal only. How do I get rid of it. I have had my carb reset and have changed the intake gaskets on the manifold .

Most common cause of this when installing new pipes is air being sucked in on decel from a loose header pipe connection. I would double-check your torque of the fasteners at the point where the pipes meet the engine 'jugs'.

Good advice from Mr. Payne, just one exhaust flange nut being loose will cause decel popping. Did you change the exhaust port gaskets? With what? Fiber or steel? Easy to get those cockeyed and leak. I would also suggest spraying some starting fluid or something similar at those new intake gaskets to check for leaks, very easy to screw up that install and not get a good seal.
