Default 2003 Heritage Softail - passing Lamp Questions

Hi Guys,

One of the passing lamps on my 2003 Heritage is burnt out. It is the original "sealed unit." I'm told that those are no longer available and I have to buy a kit that replaces the internal lamp assemblies and the wiring. I've been to three different shops. None of them have the kit in stock, nor can they articulate what exactly comes in the kit and/or exactly what I need to buy. Can anyone help me out? A part number for the kit would be great. I've looked on a fiche and don't see anything that looks like a replacement kit.

Thanks,

Interestingly, the current Harley Online Parts Finder doesn't show the "Passing Lamps" section with parts breakdown... Luckily I have the 2003 Softail parts catalog #99455-03A, that was copyrighted 2002.

That parts catalog shows two bulbs. The domestic bulb #68674-69A (4.5" sealed beam) and the HDI (international) bulb #68847-98 (4.5" reflector with halogen bulb & different connector from domestic lamp)

The domestic bulb was a GE 4440X 4.5" sealed beam light bulb. If you do a google search you will see a few 4440X sealed beam replacements, none from Harley.. I don't believe GE or the Wagner equivalent are made anymore for/by GE or Wagner... so the bulbs you find now are "replacements"

There is also a #4411 bulb, but it uses a different connector than the 4440X. I believe the 4440X bulb is a direct swap, but I forget what the actual plug looks like.

I replaced my passing lamps in 2018 with a couple of sealed beam replacements from Dennis Kirk. I checked, but they no longer show them on their web site.

If you want more than a 35W or 40W sealed beam light, Harley does sell a "Clear Lens with Halogen Bulb Auxiliary Lamp Bulb Kit" #68208-98A.

Is that the "kit" you are referring to?

If you go to the details section, the installation instructions are there...

https://www.harley-davidson.com/us/e...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

Good luck with your repair...

Man, that's great. Thanks. I think that last link goes to the kit I'm looking for. I'm going to give it a try. I'll let you know how it goes.T

A couple years ago, I found an NOS lamp on ebay. $40 I think.

I couldn't believe they had gone discon. How many yrs (decades) usage ?

Thinking back, that was probably 3 or 4 yrs ago.

Thanks. Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I appreciate the idea. I looked around on EBay and didn't see anything. No matter at this point. I'm heading to the Harley website to buy the kit.

Final note on this one. I bought the Harley kit for $79.99 back in December. Finally got out to the garage last week to install them. The kit had all sorts of crazy "cut this wire, re-wire this connector" instructions. as I looked at it I realized it was asking me to cut off the old connectors and install the exact same style connectors back on the original wires. So I said, 'Screw that," and simply plugged the lights into the old wires. And it worked like a champ.

Thanks for the help.
