Default Softail street bob

I'm looking at purchasing a used Street Bob something in the 08 - 14 MY range.
I'm 5'6" in height, and wondering if the bike would be too big for me to turn, especially since I'm considering replacing the bars with breakout style handlebars. I have a few other mods in mind but my main questions:

What's the biggest profile rear tyre the street bob can take?

Are the breakout style bars a sensible option for my height?

Background: Never had a Harley before; mostly been riding sports bikes up to the 600cc limit. Haven't ridden motorbikes for the last 15 years, except a few times on odd occasions where I ride my friends' bike or something. Planning to get back into it next spring!

Well good luck finding a 2008-2014 Softail street bob... because they don't exist.

for any street bob 2017 and older it will be on the dyna frame. Still great bikes, but not 100% without their flaws. I love my 2014 dyna street bob. I suggest you figure out if you really want and your budget allows a softail street bob (2018+) or an older dyna version street bob. Or maybe even a different softail model if you're interested in a softail more than a street bob specifically, but need to find something in the 2008-'14 range for budget reasons.

At 5'6 if the bike has forward controls you are going to have an issue. You might be better off looking at a softtail

You need to test out at least one version of the Street Bob- the Dyna and the softail from 2018+. That will give you a better idea what will fit you better.
Then you can figure out the biggest rear tire and type of bars for your choice.

Thanks. I will be heading to the HD showroom this weekend to have a look.

Just wondered if the Street Bob (Dyna and/or Softail) can take a 200+ profile rear tyre .....

Ah thanks. Didn't know the difference. Bene trying to do some homework on the different types of HD but there seems to be a HUGE variety !

He is looking at used bikes. How many USED dyna's still have their mid controls? I would say 80% of them have been change to forwards.....so at 5'6" that is going to be an issue

looking at used street bobs, tons of them still have mids. first page on cycle trade has 60% of them with mids. no doubt a lot have been changed, but nowhere near 80% have been changed. Not to mention if getting one from a private seller that has swapped to forwards, they still may have the mid control parts. And even if they don't have the parts its easier and cheaper to swap back to mids than it is to put fwd controls on.

Either way, I think OP needs to find the model that is what he wants before he starts worrying too much about if a bike has mid vs fwd controls.
