Default Head Gasket

Does anyone know how critical it is for the cylinder liner to protrude from the top of the bore? Can this be filed flat with a finishing stone or did I just ruin my jug?

Based on your post, my gut says you probably damaged your cylinder. I can't say for certain or how bad, as I'm not sure what you have (cylinders & heads), what you exactly did, or why you did it...

I can say with confidence, it's time to take your cylinders & heads to an experienced Harley shop (that does machining) and get a professional opinion on your parts.... They can tell you if they are ruined or salvageable...

Good luck with your repair/mods...

Just prepping the cylinder face is all I mean. Using EDM stones (mold finishing stones) as opposed to anything aggressive. I hear a ton of talk on prepping head surface but nothing on prepping the face of the mating surface, ie cylinder face. The stone takes off very little material, maybe .0005"

I do a lot of machinig so am no stranger to the process. I just don't have a ton of knowledge on tolerance of these cylinders. So I'm concerned if the liner protrusion has been taken down, will this compromise gasket crush.

Thanks for the additional info... based on your original post, I had no idea of your skill set or knowledge....

As to your specific question, I am NOT a machinist, and have a shop do my "fitting" (cylinders, pistons, rings, heads) when I do a top end or big bore... So I can't give you an answer to your question...

There are some on here who will be able to give you some guidance... hopefully they'll see this thread before too long..

PS- I sent you a PM with some info

Is it a 110" motor. Harley had a problem with the cylinder liners moving.
