My Softail's birthday lol
I traded my first Harley, a 2008 Sportster Roadster. Wish I would have kept that bike and bought the Heritage. I've had that thought many times in my life with lot's of things. But as of late I've done that with some things. I bought the Roadster new also but from the dealer in Colorado Springs. That was a great bike for roaming the mountains of Colorado solo.
So to celebrate great times and great memories, I bought a new set of wide white wall tires from the dealer in Daytona during bike week. Also stopped by Adam Amsoil's mobile shop/store at the Daytona speedway and picked up some oil. Since new, I've done all oil changes and used only Mobil 1 and Harley filters. This time I thought I'd treat my bike to some more expensive stuff lol.
Since new, My Heritage has never been back to the dealer for anything. Not even any service. Just twice to an independent, Iron Eagle just south of Lake Wales on U.S. 17 here in Florida for tire changes. Im a low mileage rider/fair weather rider as I have a handful of other toys. With just 20,000 miles on her in 11 years, she still puts a big smile on my face and brings a good vibe after my girl and I have been out on her. Every time I hear the words, what are you riding?, I think Harley should not have put the word classic in the name. Cause who does not love the classic's? At the cost of just the fee's and taxes plus interest if you finance, you can buy my bike here in south Florida with even lower mileage for less! Plenty of people like myself who enjoy their bikes as a casual rider, why not.
I turned 61 this past November. Eat fairly healthy, don't smoke and walk almost everyday two to three miles. However was diagnosed with a bad heart valve and had to get a replacement December the 4th. All went well and I had a easy recovery thanks to my wife who is a retired nurse. However due to FMLA being just two months, my employer said I'd have to re-apply for my position. Luckily my wife and I were good with our savings and she said nope, your done. Time to enjoy life. Lucky me to have her. So I added some new radio equipment to my amateur radio shack, and we bought a new Yamaha jet ski at the St Pete boat show this past January so we can start retirement off with some fun. It was great to be able to ride to Daytona which ever day we wanted and do other activities and not worry if I had to work or not.
So back to my bike lol. Life's been great to me. And every time I throw my leg over and hit that button, its a reminder how lucky I am. My Harley is the best mental therapy hands down.
Ride safe everyone. And God Bless the U.S.A.
