I currently have a FXST and am considering moving to the FXSTS softail springer. With no new models available a test ride is probably not possible. I do not like going to private sales and pretending to be interested in buying their bike. I would like to know if any springer owners have any issues with the handling or suspension etc. I do realise that the springer is a similar configuration to the standard softy. When the bike i like appears for sale i would like to move quickly, so any insight would be greatly appreciated. I would like to buy 2006 model. Thanks.
absolutely no issues with the handling or suspension... I have the 2006 Springer Softail you are interested in, and it's a great bike... I would jump on one if you find one for sale... I would buy it all over again.
I might even trade my fatboy for one... maybe not..
YOU CAN GET an 08 Screaming Eagle Springer still tho.. the CVO
if I had the cashola Id get one of them.. 110 motor.. forward controls, chromed everything just about, 6 speed, tombstone taillight, great front suspension
only thing about em I hear is the front brake is kinda weak.. that's np I'd slap on a aftermarket caliper
I have an 06 FXSTS. I really do like it. I had a 05 NT before and I liked it too, but I think the Springer is really classy- just preference. As far as problems or issues, none yet. I don't have any regrets if thats what you are getting to. I like the Screamin Eagle Springer- very nice, but kinda hard to make it you own when everything is already done.Good luck.
nice lookin bike. I was soooo close to pullin the trigger on one of those. my dad said the ride isn't as great as hydraulic forks, but who knows. I vote to get it
I have a 06 love it. vance and hines 2 into 1 screaming eagle air filter power commander polished and chromed rear wheel chroming out hand controls. Ride and handling is ok no problems at all.

The front brake is a single caliper brake, and from what I've "heard", there is a technical reason they went with the single caliper on the springer fork, so you might not be able to safely increase the stopping power that much on that brake. That being said, as long as you respect the fact that you have less stopping power on that wheel, it's not that bad. I say this from the perspective of having a Springer Classic, though, so not exactly the same motorcycle you are looking at.
