2005 Fat Boy 88 cu in w/carburetor 5 speed transmission, 4,600 miles.
Im doing a three hole fluid change for the first time in my 3 week ownership. I found pink goo in the transmission. It has the consistency of a mix of gear oil and chassis grease.
The transmission was flawless. Smooth shifts. A barely noticeably Harley clunk into first. Easier to find neutral. Makes my RK 6 speed and my K1600 6 speed feel and sound sick. All bike transmissions should perform this well. Before I found this lubricant in it I thought it was the way a HD 5 speed worked.
Has anyone ever seen a trans lubricant this color and thickness before?
Im have to flush this goop out then refill with HD 80-140 gear oil.
Just wondering what this stuff is.
Thanks
Yep, Redline Heavy Shockproof. It's all I use in my two bikes. I started using it in 2010 when I bought a leftover 2009 Ultra from Chandler HD in Arizona. They had Shockproof on Display. After riding that Ultra in the AZ heat I came back and got some Shockproof. I've used it ever since.
It looks like this in its natural undiluted state. Tranny leaks become easy to find; shifting and finding neutral issues become non issues. That's why the OP was so surprised by the performance of that transmission.
This a true story. I won't say who as I don't know that he visits this forum, but a guy I know in California forgot to add fluid to his transmission after being disturbed during servicing his bike. So he ended up riding 400 miles before realizing he hadn't refilled the transmission. It was shifting and operating fine. When he was back at home he thought I could probably add lube and keep going. But he had another transmission and swapped it. This was an HD five speed. After cleaning up the transmission parts he was astounded, they all looked fine. What transmission lube does he run? Redline Heavy Shockproof.
