I have a 2002 harley fatboywith a frankenstien trike kit . Some low live stole the dip stick. I can not find a new one cause they dont have one that you check the oil with the bike upright. I have ordered a replacement from eBay but it takes a couple of weeks to get here in Canada.I have a new one with the temp guage on it but its chrome and I cant see where the level is. So my question is how much does the oil have to be below the weld mark on the filler pipe. Mines a 1/4 inch below the filler pipe. Is that ok?
To solve the chrome dipstick issue. Take a paper towel, remove dipstick, clean dipstick. insert dipstick per manual, remove and lay against the paper towel, roll dipstick slightly away from where you had it keeping the end even from where it was. The oil will show on the paper since it's hard to see on the dipstick.
Sorry, don't know where your marks should be, hopefully someone will tell you that shortly. Then take a file and scratch the mark into the chrome dipstick.
It seems I usually dump old and replace with a fresh 1 gallon. Worked on my 81 FXS, 89 FXRT, 03 Classic and 13 LOimited.
Worst case, get a new oil filter and a gallon of oil. change the oil and filter, start and run long enough to fill filter then shut off and wait a few before checking oil and marking height on your dipstick.
If you want to get real fancy, only put 3 quarts in, mark the line then add the last quart and mark the line. Now you know full and 1 quart low..
